The external cylindrical grinder is divided into the ordinary external cylindrical grinder and the universal external cylindrical grinder. The outer cylindrical surface, the outer conical surface and the step shaft end face of the work piece can be ground on the ordinary external cylindrical grinder, and the inner cylindrical surface, inner conical surface and end face can also be ground on the universal external cylindrical grinder. The main parameter of the cylindrical grinder is the maximum grinding diameter.
The cylindrical grinder takes the two centers of the tops as the center and the grinding wheel as the tool to grind the cylindrical steel parts into a precision concentric grinder (also known as the centerpiece grinder or cylinder grinder).
The external cylindrical grinding is mainly carried out on the external cylindrical grinder, which is used to grind the outer cylinder, outer cone and shoulder end face of the shaft work piece.
During grinding, the work piece rotates at a low speed. If the work piece moves longitudinally to and fro at the same time and makes a transverse feed of the grinding wheel relative to the work piece after each single stroke or double stroke moved longitudinally, it is called longitudinal grinding method.
If the width of the grinding wheel is greater than the length of the ground surface, the work piece does not move longitudinally during the grinding process, but the grinding wheel is continuously fed laterally relative to the work piece, which is called the cutting-in grinding method.
In general, the efficiency of the cut-in grinding method is higher than that of the longitudinal grinding method. If the grinding wheel is trimmed into a forming surface, the formed outer surface can be machined by cutting into the grinding method.
